Molazzana
Molazzana extends its territory from the right bank of Serchio to the heights of Pania della Croce (1859 m.), of Pania Secca and Pizzo delle Saette, going through areas planted with vines and olive trees, through the end of the chestnut to the beech forest and over again, the escarpments of the "queen of Apuan Alps", which in June are covered with spectacular blooms.
Just below Pania Alpe of S. Antonio is the fraction higher altitude of the town, to go down there Brucciano on the road that, through Calomini Vergemoli, leads to the Cave of the Wind.
Molazzana is dominated by the castle of Estense origin (15th century), Cascio, however, is one of the few remaining examples of a fortified village, with massive walls, gates and towers dating back to 1615. The two countries are linked by a beautiful trail that passes from the mills of Vescherana. Inside the parish church of San Lorenzo, a terracotta Madonna and Child by Benedetto da Maiano.
In Sassi, set in bold panoramic position, we find S. Frediano’s ancient church with its bell tower, built on a more ancient fortress that was destroyed in 1370. The little Church of Madonna della Neve is also characteristic and is on the track that connects Sassi with the farming center of Granciglia and with Castelnuovo di Garfagnana.
