In the heart of the Apuan Alps by e-bike
After a short but important briefing on the use of pedal-assisted MTBs, we will set off on our route. From the small village of Torrite we will climb to the Fortress of Monte Alfonso, which dominates the hill above Castelnuovo di Garfagnana. A series of paths will allow us to cross numerous small villages. Splendid views of the Apennine peaks, chestnut forests and natural areas of great value will accompany the pedalling that in some places will be challenging for the slope of the track. After the umpteenth village we will change direction and along a dirt road through a vast forest we will reach the village of Roggio, where Andrea will welcome us and let us taste the typical local products (not included).
We will eat in the large outdoor veranda in summer or in the beautiful indoor hall in other seasons, during the meal we can recharge the batteries of our MTBs.
After lunch we will continue to climb for another 4 km to reach the highest point of our itinerary, the ancient alpine pasture of Campocatino in the presence of the splendid Mount Roccandagia. The landscapes of this valley, the ancient villages, the lakes and the peaks of the Apuan Alps above them, will allow us to admire unique landscapes. From Campocatino our route will be mainly downhill and will take us towards the Serchio river. Here we come to another highlight of this fantastic tour, the crossing of the Serchio river on a masonry bridge the highest in Europe. We’ll change sides in the valley but will continue along the beautiful paths and panoramic views until we reach Pontecosi and its homonymous lake before closing the ring of this route through Garfagnana.
