Between villages and landscapes half a day by e-bike

We ride through the historical centre of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana where we cross the Serchio river over a historical bridge and then ride for about 1 km on an ordinary road before turning right and starting to ride through cultivated fields and agricultural landscapes. We soon reach the historic centre of Pieve Fosciana and following the route of the “Via del Volto Santo” (Route of the Holy Face) we arrive in Castiglione di Garfagnana, a splendid village included in the list of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
After a stop in a typical food bar, where we will breathe in the typical village atmosphere, we will ride our electric MTBs to the highest point of the walls surrounding the medieval village, a panoramic spot with splendid views of both the Apuan Alps and the mountains of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine National Park.
We continue along lanes and pleasant dirt roads, crossing several farms where typical breeds of cattle are bred. The landscapes we cross will allow us to fully enjoy the nature in which this valley is rich. A beautiful descent through the woods will lead us to the small village of Sambuca, with its little church perched on volcanic rocks. A short visit and then along enjoyable paths and dirt roads to the village of Pontecosi and its historic donkey-board bridge on the banks of the lake of the same name. We descend for a few kilometres through residential areas and woods to then cross the Serchio river near the village of Gallicano. Along secondary roads we reach the organic farm where Gabriele, an expert oenologist and passionate about his work, will present us his bio-dynamic wines.

Height difference: about 780 metres.
Difficulty / Commitment: 5 (on a scale of 1 to 12). Route with alternating secondary roads and dirt roads, stretches on paths.

What to bring:
You can participate in the activity with sportswear, however more specific clothing for cycling will allow for greater comfort. We suggest to bring a small backpack where to put a light windproof jacket and a water bottle.
