Villages and Flavours of Garfagnana
A walk through medieval villages and the agro-biodiversity of this corner of Tuscany.
In this easy itinerary we will visit some Garfagnana villages with a millenary history (such as Castiglione di Garfagnana, one of the ‘most beautiful villages in Italy’), we will meet some farmers who with their passion keep alive the local food tradition (spelt with the IGP mark, chestnuts and their drying process in the ‘Metati’, varieties of apples and beans that have almost disappeared, pecorino cheese and honey) and we will learn about the landscape (the Apuan Alps, the Apennines, the parks), history (from the Ligurians to the Lombards and the duchy of Modena) and the valley’s sylvan and pastoral economy.
