The white Sanctuary, built towards the end of the 19th century, is nestled in the green meadows of the Argegna plateau, just above the Foce dei Carpinelli. Here the statue of the Madonna della Guardia is still venerated today and it is placed in protection of the lands of Garfagnana and Lunigiana. Behind the Sanctuary there is the great bell of the “Alpini”(Italian army); on the last Sunday of August takes place the traditional Argegna festival a real meeting point of the many devotees of the Madonna.
