A classic route for motorcycle lovers that touches the Apennine passes leading to the Garfagnana. The route starts from Passo dei Carpinelli (842 m. Asl), which marks the border with Lunigiana, and follows the SR 445, passing in succession Piazza al Serchio, Camporgiano, Castelnuovo di Garfagnana from where, coming from Lucca or Versilia, you can enter the itinerary in the direction of Pieve Fosciana. From here the SP 71 steeply climbs to San Pellegrino in Alpe, the highest hamlet in the Apennines, and to the Passo delle Radici (1589 m. Asl), a reference point for those coming from Modena.

The SP 72 descends in the direction of Casone di Profecchia, Castiglione di Garfagnana and Pieve Fosciana; from here follow the Provincial road in the direction of San Romano in Garfagnana – Passo di Pradarena (1579 m. Asl), access to the valley for those arriving from Reggio Emilia.

From the Pass, go back a few kilometers to Sillano to take the road that connects Ponteccio and Giuncugnano. From this village, the road climbs with a few bends to Passo di Tea, an ancient pass for pilgrims on the Via del Volto Santo, and to Argegna with the white Sanctuary of the Madonna della Guardia, and finally arrives at the Passo dei Carpinelli.
