Perpoli, a small hamlet in the municipality of Gallicano, rises on a terraced hill overlooking the river valley of the Serchio River between Castelnuovo di Garfagnana and Gallicano.
It has always been a strategic point for overseeing the valley, so much so that it was fortified with a double wall. The first wall, which dates back to medieval time, is located in the highest part of the village. Of this only a low wall remains, while the second wall, dating from the Renaissance era, is external and is characterized by a massive stone entrance gate called Arco di Perpoli (Arch of Perpoli).
Inside the village there are two churches placed one in front of the other. The oldest is of Lombard origin and the ancient bell tower rises up from its center.
